IN THE NEWS
September 15, 2023 Five eager individuals from all walks of life, young and old, men and women, representing various cultures from around the world, came together and discovered - that there is no Lions Club in Ottawa West or Nepean! Brainstorming, and with the guidance of the District Govenor, they built an alliance and came up with a name: Ottawa West and Nepean Lions and they incorporate. But can they get approved?
October 10, 2023 The District Govenor arranges to have the Provisional President and Secretary of this new found group of individuals meet with the Kanata-Hazeldean Lions Club, where they plead their case in order to obtain sponsorship and have Kanata-Hazeldean as their parent club. As a request of this nature has never occured in the district to anyones recollection, there is a bombardment of questions. The meeting ends, a decision has not been made, and five individuals are left sweating and twitching over the next few days. Kanata-Hazeldean would like to ponder what they might be getting themselves into.
October 18, 2023 The membership of Kanata-Hazeldean Lions vote to allow and to sponsor Ottawa West & Nepean Lions to become a club branch. We're a Club! We're a Club! Oh alright, we're a club branch. One more hoop remains. Formal application is put into Lions Club International for formal recognition.
October 31, 2023 It's official!!! LCI recognizes the Ottawa West & Nepean Lions Club . . . um, Branch. Congrats to our founding members: Les Buckley, President; Kathleen Caught, Secretary; Barb Cook, Treasurer; Danny Caranza and Peter Rudin-Brown. Special thanks must go out to Barry Chisholm, District Govenor; Helen Mason, President, Kanata-Hazeldean Lions, and Tom Feltmate, Secretary, Kanata-Hazeldean Lions, who were instrumental in getting this to fruition. Many Thanks!
